Prof. Jaakkola\'s research covers statistical inference, estimation, and machine learning problems in general. His research focus includes the
development of principled approximation methods for statistical inference problems under limited computational resources, theoretical analysis
and development of machine learning algorithms for estimation problems with partial information, as well as active learning. Application areas
include diagnostic reasoning problems, identification of genetic regulatory networks on the basis of high density nucleotide arrays, and active
information retrieval problems.
